Lunch break
School yard — Eriol Gakuen
The school yard is predictably full of schoolkids out on sports classes, not counting those skipping class, those who are leaving early for whatever reason, and other random people. In short, pretty busy. Through the trees, the white walls of the main school building are visible, and the tips of the crowns - the symbol of Eriol Gakuen - shine brightly in the rays of the sun.
Asphalt paths run around the school in all directions, branching from the main road from the school gate to the big entrance doors of the main building, running around the soccer fields, tennis courts and towards other buildings of the complex.
Summer is in full swing, it’s hot enough to melt some plastics, and there’s no end in sight… who said Tokyo weather was kind? It’s pretty hot even after sunset.
Usada Hikaru
Long lavender hair is pulled into a pair of pigtails, knotted at the bases with large ribbons in a blue check pattern, flaring out from either side of her head to dangle around her waist. Bangs wisp free over her eyes, but the rest of her hair is gathered up in an unusual headband, large, white, and with a pair of bunny ears jutting up from it, yes.. large white bunny ears.
Her face can only be described as cute, her complexion pale and flawless, a tiny button nose set between two big purple eyes, bunny eyes, with slender lavender brows arched above them.
She wears the uniform of Eriol Gakuen, which resembles your typical Japanese high school uniform, white with a blue and gold sailor scarf, the cuffs likewise trimmed in blue and gold. An armlet with the golden crown that is the seal of the school is attached to one arm, and likewise on the breast pocket of the jacket. The skirt is pleated, and reaches to the knees, white, with blue and gold trim, just like the jacket. Baggy white socks and simple black baby doll shoes complete the outfit.
Rika
This girl fits the textbook definition of ‘cute redhead’, and while she’s unmistakably asian, her relatively pale skin and dark green eyes, coupled with flaming red hair cut in a pageboy style make it easy to forget about it, especially since there’s no sign of hair dye. She does seem to wear some makeup on her face, still posessed of soft, childlike features, but it’s hard to trace just what did she do with it - there isn’t much. Overally, she resembles a fox - lithe and slim, and generally small, since she’s rather short.
She is dressed in the Eriol Gakuen girl’s uniform - white jacket with blue sailor flap and cuffs, not to mention the tacky crown-shaped medal, white and blue short skirt and the long blue stockings with regulation white shoes. She looks unsurprisingly feminine and attractive in this attire, which was probably the initial idea. She’s dragging around a thick cloth bookbag, and a tiny Minolta Dimage Xi digital camera is hanging on her neck on a chain.
Normally the bunny ears stay at home when the pink haired idol comes to school, because she is actually pretty serious about her school work, however much she hates it. She will never accomplish her dreams being lazy! But she is wearing them today, and contacts instead of her usual glasses, and is in the process of kneeling by a bush right off one of the little sidepaths that people usually eat lunch on, playing with the dirt, it seems. Maybe she lost something down there?
Rika is sitting under her less favorite sakura tree chewing on a sandwich - apparently, she’s way too lazy to make herself a bento in the morning. Noticing Usada in bunny ears she raises an eyebrow - and her camera. snap What’s she doing there? Curious, Rika stands up and starts making her way towards Usada, sandwich in one hand, camera in the other.
She is… digging. Little hands scooping out a hole in the dirt, still kneeled over on the sidewalk, drawing the occasional curious glance from a passing by student, but they leave her be for the most part. She’s oblivious to the camera, she’s an idol after all, they get used to them after a while, and she reaches into the satchel slung across her back, pulling something out, a little flash of orange, and plopping it in that little hole, she starts to patpat dirt over it. Humming and smiling to herself all the while, usagimimi’s shading the project from the oh-so-hot sun.
snap Rika presses a button. “What are you doing, Usada-kun?” she asks curiously, crouching in front of the idol digging in the dirt. Pausing to take another bite of the sandwich she comments, “And what do you plan to do next?”
“Haaaa.. Maekikun..” Usada peers over her shoulder at her, still patting dirt over whatever it was she just buried, a little green leaf sticking up from it. Satisfied, she reaches into her satchel for a little water bottle, squirting some water on it as she explains. “I’m planting carrots..” Pause. “Then I’m going to eat lunch..” Pause. “Then I’m going to go to class..” Blink. Blink.
Blink. Blink. snap “Are these three connected by any chance?” Rika asks curiously, snapping a closeup shot of the leaf. “…and what are you planting the carrots for?” she asks curiously. “You can’t expect to eat them. Someone will find them and do this first!” she adds.
“Haaaaa.” The pink haired student stops to ponder this for a moment, idly tapping a finger against her chin, looking to be in very deep thought. Although then again, the utter absence of thought could look the same way. “I like carrots. They are good for you.” She finally decides, smiling brightly at the redhead like this explains everything. She looks a little farther down the path, rises, marches there, and starts to repeat the process.
Rika takes a snap of the smiling usagimimi idol with a dirty spot on her chin, and trails after her, saying, “You will need to stand guard to make sure nobody else eats them.” she says, giggling, but making sure that Usada doesn’t notice. That silly girl who’s afraid of math went completely bonkers.
“Iiin desu yo~” Usada announces cheerfully as she finishes patting another little carrothead into place, watering it a little before she moves on to the next spot. How many of those things does she have in there. “They are healthy for everyone else too, neeee.. Maekikun?” Think of it like a health plan, or something.
Rika shrugs, “Dunno… I wouldn’t eat a carrot planted by unknown people in a place where nobody else plants anything edible. That could be a trick! But that’s me.” When she wants carrots, she buys them, doesn’t she? “Besides, you don’t know what they’ll grow like here.” she adds. “I’m not sure the atmosphere of learning is good for them.” A faint shadow of a vicious smile, “Especially math…”
“Then I’ll be able to keep them all for myself..” Usada decides, her tone uninterested almost as she patpats another little carrothead into place. “Besides.. Maekikun..” she looks back up with a little grin. “It’s sunnier here than at home..” Her expression falters a little at the mention of the most evil of subjects, but then she decides cheerfully, piku’ing. “Carrots are good for your vision too!” Which apparently has something to do with math. Honest.
Rika grins. “But is vision good for the carrots?” she asks cryptically. “What if they’ll grow into something horrible here, mutating under the influence of the atmosphere of learning?” she adds, and takes another bite of her sandwich. “Imagine a carrot with a square root!” she adds after a brief run of imagination. She can clearly picture it. Honest.
Kitatani Kit
This young female is a small dark haired teenager. Besides her small cheek bones, shoulder length, straight black hair, and thin black eyebrows, her bright pink eyes shine forth. If one were to look close enough, her eyes would definitely have contacts in, though her actual eye color would be unidentifiable.
Nawar
This girl has a curious mix of asian features.. her skin, a gentle milky brown. She stands taller than most of her peers, as if nature wanted to give her slightly slanted glowing hazel eyes a better view to admire the wonders in this world. While she’s by no means a heavyweight, all-around she does have a more filled out figure than many of her peers leading to a healthy set of soft curves. Her fingers, naturally long and delicate seem calloused, the nails cracked or worn down and likely caked with a few flecks of soil. A faint aroma of earth and plants surrounds her and the sturdy, woven cloth bag she never lets out of her sight.
It’s a nice hot summer lunchbreak, and students are scattered everywhere, eating bentou’s and complaining about the heat. Except for a pink haired and a red haired student, who are slowly advancing down the paths, the pink one.. Usada (wearing an oversized pair of bunny ears) occasionally crouching down to dig a little hole in the dirt, bury something there, pat it down, and squirt a little water from a water bottle onto it. The redhead, Rika, is following her and capturing the whole thing on her camera, and trying to rattle the poor bunnygirl. Something she says actually brings a pause to her diligent planting, pausing to stare at a little carrothead, a twitch running through her bunnyears somehow. But then she giggles, looking back to Rika, wivvling a hand dismissively. “Kimi shinai kimi shinai, Maekikun..” she insists, “After all, a carrot is a carrot.” …or something like that.
Rika grins. “But a carrot with a square root is no longer a carrot!” she claims. Unbreakable logic, ne? Chewing on the last of her sandwich, she adds, “You never know what the air of kids studying mathematics can do to the poor carrots!” Hee.
Nawar pushes open the door leading out of the school and strides down the path, her arms swinging as she hums a song only she knows. She loves the sun, even if it is being a bit oppressive at the moment. She beams a smile as she catches sight of Usada and Rika and hops along towards them. “Kon-nichi-wa Usada-san and Maeki-san!”
Kitatani Kit is over with her own sect of girls as she notices the bunny ears bobbing up and down ever so often. Breaking away from their little circle, yelling out a few excuses mes as she does, the pink eyed girl heads over. “Konichiwa.” The girl blinks as Nawar comes up too. “Agh, oh, Aino-san!” Kit’s dimples grow as she smiles all friendly-like. Peering back down to the bunny eared Usada, she asks, “What are you doing Usada-san?”
Bunny ears twitchtwitch at the familiar voices chiming in.. how -does- she get them to do that, and she giggles quickly at Rika, chiding her with. “You think too much.. Maekikun..” before turning to the other two. “Araaa.. konnichi’ha, Ainokun, Kitkun.” The former gets a grin, and then she looks towards the latter, blinkblinking. “Anou… are you working tonight too.. Kitkun? I’m going to be a little late… gomen! Can you cover for me if you are?”
Rika nods hello to the other girls from her class and turns back to Usada, “Which is why I will be ready when the carrots with a square root dig themselves out of the ground and start to integrate everybody!” she grins. “This will be very good for vision.” she adds with a silly grin, giggling.
Kit nods reassuringly. “Again? Who’s the boy this time Usada-san?” She’s joking obviously. “Hai, hai, I can. What section are you working though? I may have to pull some strings with some of the boys.” She winks. “It won’t be too hard though.” Kit rolls her eyes playfully at Rika. “Oh Maeki-san, you’re too strange at times!” She chuckles light heartedly and nods affirmatively.
“Haaaaa..” That dreaded word, integrate, makes purplish-pink eyes glaze over a little bit, but Usada shakes it off to look over at Nawar, grinning cheerfully. “Carrots. I like carrots. They are good for you.” Pause. “…and I had a lot of carrottops left over after dinner last night…” Aaah. It all makes perfect sense. She looks lastly towards the girl with the even pinker eyes, shaking her head and waving her hands. “A-aaa.. iiie.. it’s nothing like that, Kitkun! I have to do something with Nanamikun… then I will be in! I shouldn’t be very late at all! I’m supposed to work the second section tonight.” Grin grin. She’s way too busy.
Rika giggles more. “And you expect carrottops to grow, here?” She takes another snap picture of the silly idol in bunny ears, “I sure hope you’re ready to being integrated.” she adds with a wide grin.
Around Nawar, an enormous sweatdrop grows until overshadows her head.. she unconsciously fiddles with one of the buttons on her school uniform, looking more than a bit awkward. “Aaah, a-ano.. Usada-san, carrots, they.. need seeds to grow.” As she says this she begins to scuff one foot along the path.. still, before long she brightens up “Demo, if you want! If you want, I can bring some seeds tomorrow and we can find a place on the school grounds that they would like to grow up in!”
Kit just nods. “Hai, it’ll be fine.” Those pink irises move to take Rika into the light a little more. “I don’t think that you will ever be integrated simply on the basis that you are too imaginary.” Kit has had her share of math too it seems. The Piffle employee just looks to the others. “Well then, if Usada-san is planting carrots, maybe we can get the faculty to make sure that the students don’t walk over them. How long does it take carrots to grow anyhow?” Kit giggles some as Nawar straightens them out some. “Well, that isn’t any fun.”
An abrupt bell causes the girls to rush back to the class, leaving the carrots and everything else unattended for the rest of the day.
